****MEET KISHWER FALKNER****
Kishwer Falkner is a Liberal Democrat Peer in the House of Lords. She is Spokesman for Communities and Local Government. The first Muslim frontbencher in Britain, she takes an active interest in foreign affairs and civil liberties, community relations and integration. She is currently on sabbatical in the United States, where she has just completed a Fellowship at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
Kishwer was born in Pakistan and naturalised as a UK citizen in 1983. She joined the Liberal Democrats in the mid 1980s and worked for the party in several posts till 1999. Kishwer stood as prospective parliamentary candidate in Kensington and Chelsea in 2001, gaining the highest ethnic minority vote for Liberal Democrats in London. She was became a member of Parliament in 2004. As a member of Parliament, Kishwer has participated in and spoken on a variety of bills in the House of Lords, including a Prevention of Terrorism Bill and most recently, the Forced Marriage Bill in the U.K.
