MuBANY Mentorship Program

THE PITCH

The Muslim Bar Association of New York is kicking off its 2009-2010 mentorship program and is looking for mentors and mentees.  As in years past, the program serves as MuBANY’s continued effort to nurture the careers of and strengthen the relationship between New York-area Muslim attorneys and law students.

APPLICATION

The MENTOR application can be downloaded here.  The MENTEE application can be downloaded here.  Email completed forms to MuBANY Secretary, Madiha Zuberi, at secretary@muslimbarny.org with the subject “MENTORSHIP PROGRAM – MENTEE” if you are a mentee, and “MENTORSHIP PROGRAM – MENTOR” if you are a mentor.  You may also send completed forms and any questions/comments to MuBANY Vice President, Asaad K. Siddiqi (address included on the applications).

At present, mentees must be current MuBANY Members.  Mentors are strongly encouraged to become MuBANY Members.

FAQ

Not a MuBANY MemberMembership forms are available for download at www.muslimbarny.org.  Law students pay no dues for the first year of Membership.

Don’t know if you’re a MuBANY Member?  If you haven’t paid dues in the past 12 months, then you are not a current MuBANY Member.  To determine your current membership status, email MuBANY Treasurer, Safia Hussain, at treasurer@muslimbarny.org.

Can’t afford the dues?  Get your employer to reimburse you!  Most law firms and many public interest and government employers encourage your active participation in niche bar associations and will reimburse or offset your expenses, but only if you ask.

Don’t have time to mentorThe time involved could be as simple as responding to an email or fielding a quick phone call.  That minimal time could prove invaluable for your mentee.

CONCLUSION

MuBANY is not just any bar association.  It is YOUR bar association.  So stay involved!  The students want our help.  Let’s provide them with the support that they need.

Wa’salaam,
